Samsa

“As Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from uneasy dreams he found himself transformed in his bed into a gigantic insect.”

Franz Kafka

Inspired by the novella “The Metamorphosis” by Franz Kafka, the story of salesman Gregor Samsa who wakes one morning to find himself inexplicably transformed into a huge insect, I have created colour-intensive and dreamlike pictures of insects.

I don’t think it is a spoiler if I reveal that Gregor Samsa is dead at the end of the story, rejected and neglected by his own family, who were disgusted by him and could no longer understand him.
This is admittedly far-fetched, but with the pictures I also want to show a little bit of the sometimes bizarre beauty of the insects, so that the viewer might see them with different eyes.
Because insect extinction is very real and not a made-up story.

Big thanks to the Senckenberg German Entomological Institute who gave me a very warm welcome there and where I could do great work.
The series was created with the support of Leica with the Leica SL2 and the Multishot method. This resulted in images of 187 megapixels!
